California Chihuahua transport

More than 30 dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, made a 4,000-mile trip and arrived at Animal Humane Society's Golden Valley shelter on Monday, February 17. They were driven here by volunteers with the rescue group Compassion Without Borders out of California’s Central Valley. The dogs are currently undergoing medical evaluations and many of them will become available for adoption within the next few days.

AHS works with many out of state rescue group like Compassion without Borders, where the number of homeless animals far outweigh the number of adopters. The California rescue group says there is an overpopulation of Chihuahuas in their area, and they are grateful to organizations like AHS.

Please watch our website's adoption listing over the next few days for more information about each dog.

If you wish to put an animal on hold or to adopt an animal from AHS, you must be present at an AHS adoption center. We will not put animals on an adoption hold via a phone or email request.
