A new way of housing dogs at AHS

Our dog habitat prototype opened in June 2018 at Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley.

This innovative space houses up to six dogs who have individual dens where they eat, rest, and sleep. They also have a shared space to play and interact with one another and people throughout the day. People looking to adopt or simply visit with dogs are able to interact with them in ways they never could before.

We've seen some incredible benefits for the dogs in this space. The play time and socialization helps high-energy dogs, while the socialization can help shy dogs come out of their shell. Or, as Shelter Behavior Services Manager Liv Hagen puts it: dogs teach each other how to dog.
