You must be 16 years or older to volunteer at Animal Humane Society sites or events. Many of the animals that come to us have unknown histories. All people working at our shelters need to be able to manage unpredictable situations. In order to ensure the safety of the animals, staff and volunteers, Animal Humane Society has determined that youth under the age of 16 are not appropriate for volunteering with the organization.
We understand that most youth have varying maturity levels. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to appropriately assess these differences and thus our policy is to limit our volunteer program to those 16 years of age or older.

Young people might also consider having a parent apply to be a foster volunteer. Although the primary volunteer must be age 18 or older, the entire family can participate in the fostering experience.
