Fostering bottle baby kittens

Bottle Baby foster volunteers care for litters of kittens 2 weeks and older that need bottle feeding, pottying and cleaning every 3 to 4 hours.  Because care for these kittens is time consuming, the groups will range in size from 1 to 4 kittens so as not to overwhelm any one volunteer.  Volunteers can choose to foster kittens until they are weaned at about 4 weeks of age or until they are big enough for adoption at approximately 8 weeks of age.

Animal Humane Society provides all of the supplies volunteers need to care for these kittens including; kitten formula, heating pad, digital scale for daily weight checks and other helpful items.  All needed medical care including vaccinations, wormers and urgent care concerns are provided by Animal Humane Society.  Volunteers will be asked to return to shelter with the kittens every 2 weeks for general wellness checks and vaccination boosters.

Before applying for this volunteer role please consider the following:

  • Am I home enough during the day for frequent bottle feeding?
  • Do I have a space where I can keep kittens separate from resident pets?
  • Do I have reliable transport to pick up or return kittens in short notice if needed?
  • Do I live within 30 minutes travel time from one of the 5 AHS shelter locations?

If you answered “yes” to these questions and are interested in this volunteer opportunity please submit a volunteer application.
