ABOUT CAMP REGISTRATION
Thanksgiving Camp registration fee includes camp activities and materials, plus two snacks. Campers are required to bring their own lunch.
If your camp registration is cancelled more than 7 days prior to the camp start date, your registration fee will be refunded. No refunds will be offered for registrations cancelled less than 7 days prior to the start of the camp session.
There are no scholarships available for Thanksgiving Camp.
Not necessarily. The camp day includes activities for the full group (15-20 campers, depending on location) as well as small groups (3-6 campers). These groups are changed throughout the day to fit the needs of a particular activity or to address group behavior. Campers who attend with friends will have ample opportunity to be together, including sitting together at lunch, but we will not guarantee that they will participate in every activity together.
MORE ABOUT CAMP
Camp hours run from 9 am-4 pm.
Thanksgiving Campers will participate in some of the same activities offered in our Summer Camps. Thanksgiving Camp will have a special focus on Gratitude; and campers will also create some edible treats for the Thanksgiving holiday!
No. We have many children who attend camp with us year after year, so we make a point to offer a variety of new activities each time. Some activities simply can't be changed (animal interactions, for example, are limited to certain activities for the safety of the campers and the animals), and we sometimes repeat activities that were especially popular - but staff strive to plan as many new themes, games, crafts, and learning activities as possible for every camp.
Each day at camp includes time where kids are interacting with shelter animals, but that's only one part of the camp experience; Good Friday Camp includes lots of other animal-related activities, too. Please note that Good Friday Camp is not a junior volunteer program; campers will not be performing shelter volunteer duties during camp.
Unfortunately, we do not have extended childcare available. If camp hours are a challenge for your family, invite a friend whose family would be able to provide transportation.
Campers should come to the main adoption entrance at the shelter. Our shelters are not open until 12:00 noon on weekdays, but camp staff will come out to welcome campers shortly before 9:00 am.
At the end of the online registration process, you will be prompted to download a page with more information about camp. This newsletter will include information about checking in and signing out, what to wear, items to bring, etc.
We do our best to provide kid-friendly and healthy snacks. Snacks may include things like popcorn, cheese crackers, pretzels, trail mix, applesauce, granola bars, Chex mix, etc. If your child has food allergies, please discuss this with camp staff to make sure snacks are appropriate for your child; or if you prefer, you may also send snacks from home.
