Build your resume and explore career options in animal welfare

Join us for an unforgettable summer of helping animals by participating in our Student Volunteer Experience program. This unique program is open to high school students entering grades 10-12 and recent high school graduates who want to volunteer with Animal Humane Society over the course of one summer.

Volunteer roles

Student volunteers roles are available at each of our three shelter locations and include:

  • Adoption Floor Assistants: Provide customer assistance, help connect animals in our care with potential adopters, and provide animal socialization, which helps keep animals happy and healthy during their stay at AHS.
  • Animal Care Assistants: Ensure animals in our care are provided with clean, comfortable housing which leads to healthier, happier, and ultimately more adoptable animals.

In both roles, student volunteers will have opportunities to shadow staff in a variety of fields such as Animal Care and Veterinary Services.

Program requirements

Student volunteers must commit to three-hour shifts, three times per week, from June through mid-August. The program fee for accepted applicants is $50.

At a minimum, applicants must be entering 10th grade. If you're younger, there are other ways to get involved and support animals and AHS.
