Rescued hounds settling in to new homes
Over the past few months we’ve been sharing updates about
the 53 hounds that our humane agents removed from a rural property in northern
Minnesota last November. Since then, we’ve provided much-needed socialization,
rehabilitation, and medical care to help prepare the dogs for adoption.
Today, just one dog from this case, 5-year-old Red, remains in our care and is on hold for adoption. Fifty-one others
have already been adopted or placed with our rescue partners. Only one dog with
dangerous aggression issues was euthanized.
We are excited to share updates from two adopters:
While at
AHS, 5-year-old Bo required special medical care, including several tooth
extractions and the removal of his right eye. Once he was ready for adoption,
he found a loving new home with Trent and two canine sisters. He now answers to
the name Artoo and fits
in perfectly with his new
family.
Another hound,
1-year-old Louis, began his road to recovery in our care, and has continued to flourish
in his new home. Jeff and his family are introducing Louis to all the exciting
things he never experienced in his previous environment. Find out how he’s
conquering his fears and enjoying new adventures in this
update.

Young animal lovers show their support
|
The spirit of giving was in full swing this holiday season – especially among our youngest supporters.
Ivan celebrated his eighth birthday in November. Instead of presents, he asked his friends to bring a small donation – up to $5 – to help animals in need. His guests graciously contributed more than the suggested amount, collecting $112 for AHS. Ivan’s parents added a few extra dollars to bring his total to $125!
At only 11 years old, Maddie created a fundraiser for animals called You Care I Care. Maddie plans to raise funds for a deserving shelter or vet clinic each year, and Animal Humane Society was the lucky beneficiary of her first fundraiser! Maddie’s fundraising talents proved successful, and in early January, she presented our St. Paul staff with a check for $1,050.
Everett, a devoted animal lover, believes that animals deserve Christmas presents as much as children. So he asked Santa to replace half of his presents with gifts for the animals! Santa delivered, and Everett dropped off a bucket full of goodies after Christmas to help keep the animals at our Buffalo location happy and healthy during their stay at AHS.
A huge thank you to these amazing young donors and to everyone who shared the love with animals at AHS this holiday season!

We’ve got some exciting plans in the works for animal-loving
young professionals in 2016. Registration is now open for The Pack, a social
club where professionals in their 20s and 30s can learn about and participate
in the work of Animal Humane Society while getting to know fellow AHS
supporters.
When you join The Pack, you’ll receive free or discounted admission to
events all year long, including:
January:
Community Cats at Summit Brewing
Join us for an evening of drinks and conversation at
Summit Brewing in St. Paul. Kathie Johnson, senior director of operations at
AHS, will host a discussion on how the Community Cats program works to improve
the lives of free-roaming and feral cats in our community and reduce the
unnecessary euthanasia of healthy cats that are not suitable for adoption.
February:
Party with The Pack, the Whisker Whirl after-party
Kick up your heels with The Pack! Immediately following
Whisker Whirl on February 20, The Pack will host an after-party at The Depot in
Minneapolis. Admission is $50 for the general public, and only $35 for members
of The Pack. The night will include beverages, appetizers, a DJ, and more. Dogs
are encouraged to attend but not required.

Animal Humane Society is a
founding member of a new effort that will benefit animals in shelters
nationwide. Shelter Animals Count: The National Database Project is a first-of-its-kind
platform that will collect and report data for animal shelters across the
country.
The goal is to create a baseline of data that will enable a greater
understanding of the issues shelters face. The board of directors includes AHS President
& CEO Janelle Dixon and leaders from other prominent national and regional
animal welfare organizations.
