Tell us about your pet’s summer

Summertime offers an endless array of activities for our pets, and we love learning what AHS alumni are up to. Whether it’s weekends at the cabin, romping around the dog park, or sunbathing in the window – we want to hear how your pet’s been spending their summer!

Submit your animal’s three favorite summertime activities and a photo to show us how much fun they are having. Select postcards will be featured on our Facebook page, Instagram, and website.

Reduced adoption fees for select cats

When Grace and Alex met Maple, it was love at first sight. When they learned that she was a “Forget-Me-Not” and had been passed over for several months, they were all the more inspired to take her home. See Maple’s success story here.

Many of our cats are adopted quickly, but occasionally some take a bit longer to catch the attention of prospective adopters. During the busy summer months, our adoption centers are packed with cats and kittens in need of loving homes, making it harder for older felines to stand out. To give them the extra boost they need, we have reduced the adoption fee for all feline Forget-Me-Nots (cats who have been waiting longer than 14 days for a home) and older cats (ages 10+) to just $25 for a limited time.

If you’re considering adopting, now is the time! View adoptable cats online or stop by any of our five locations to see who chooses you. You can also support the animals awaiting adoption by making a donation today!

Foster volunteers save orphan puppies

A lifesaving partnership between Animal Humane Society and Leech Lake Legacy has re-homed hundreds of animals from the Leech Lake Reservation and surrounding areas since 2011. The relationship is built on trust and a mutual desire from both organizations to go above and beyond to help as many animals as possible.

When Leech Lake Legacy contacted us about a litter of orphaned German Shepherd puppies needing emergency rescue this spring, we immediately made arrangements for their care so they could be brought to AHS that same day. At just one month old, the fragile puppies required round-the-clock bottle feeding, and were sent out to several foster families. More than a month later, thanks to the care of our dedicated volunteers, the dogs were thriving and returned to AHS where they were quickly adopted into new homes!
