Generosity helps rescued dogs find homes

In June, we shared with you the story of 16 dogs that Animal Humane Society rescued from a property in Northern Minnesota. These dogs were being kept outside with little or no opportunity for socialization. Many had scrapes and wounds from fighting with each other and surviving in poor conditions.

Thanks to a very generous outpouring of donations from animal lovers like you, many of the dogs have already been placed in loving homes or with local rescue partners.

We are so grateful to everyone who donated in support of these dogs. Cases like this are not rare and we will continue to see more of them in the coming months. Please make a gift now to meet the needs of other animals like them this summer.

Putting cats to work

A new initiative is providing safe homes and better lives for cats that aren’t eligible for traditional adoption at Animal Humane Society.

The Working Cat program places healthy cats that are not adoptable as pets in environments where they can flourish. These may be cats that don’t consistently use the litter box or that react negatively to routine handling by people and would not do well as house cats. Instead, these felines will be placed in barns, flower shops, police stations, construction companies, and other businesses looking for inexpensive and effective rodent control.

To acquire a working cat, adopters must agree to provide it with a warm, safe shelter like a barn or shop to keep the cat protected from the elements, food and clean water every day, medical care if needed, and a way to keep the cat contained for 2-3 weeks to acclimate to its new surroundings. A donation fee is also suggested.
