More South Korean puppies headed for AHS

This summer, 10 puppies traveled thousands of miles from overseas in search of a new life in Minnesota. For the first time ever, Animal Humane Society received an international transport, taking in puppies rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea. The transport proved so successful that we are excited to welcome more dogs rescued from the same farm. In the coming weeks, we’re expecting the arrival of 22 more puppies, arriving in two transports taking place in late September or early October.

Watch this video of the incredible story behind our first South Korean transport.

Crate training your dog

Summer is over and we’re adjusting to our fall routines. After months of daily companionship, the kids are back in school and your dog is probably wondering where everyone went. This is an ideal time to crate train your pup.

There are several benefits to crate training. A crate makes it easier to supervise your dog and limits complete access to the house where she may get into mischief. Since dogs have a natural tendency not to soil their den or sleeping area, your dog will be unlikely to eliminate in her crate and more likely to eliminate when she is taken outside. And you’ll be all set for car rides — crating your dog in the car makes everyone more comfortable and safe.

*Please note crates should never be used for extended periods of time and never as a punishment.

Kids who are passionate about animals will love AHS Youth Club

Registration is now open for Animal Humane Society’s Youth Club. Animal-loving kids in grades 5-7 meet twice per month to take a closer look at animal welfare issues currently affecting our shelter and community. Youth Club members learn about the important work we do at AHS while participating in service projects, craft and games, and interacting with animals. It’s an insider’s experience your child will never forget!
