This past Christmas, the Animal Humane Society hosted a holiday pet food drive, and it was a great success! Every month the Community Outreach team distributes nearly 3,000 pounds of food to local food shelves. After the holiday drive, we had more food than we could give out and we had to get creative! That’s when we created the Pet Stop Pop-Up.
The outreach team bagged more than 400 gallon-sized bags of dog and cat food. We piled them into our cargo vans and camped out in our parking lot, handing out food to anyone who stopped by. In one day, we served more than 60 households, distributing 527 pounds of food. Think of all the full bellies!
Each month, AHS receives pet food donations for dogs, cats, and even critters. We work to make the most of every donation, serving as many people as possible. In January, we distributed 1,628 pounds of pet food. Taking into account the success of our Pet Stop Pop-Up and that’s 2,214 pounds — a literal ton of food!
Giving your pet the nutrition they need shouldn’t be a financial hardship. Learn more about our Community Outreach Program.
