Project Purpose

Young animal lovers who want to help animals in need have a new opportunity to roll up their sleeves and pitch in at Animal Humane Society. Project Purpose will give kids ages 12-15 a deeper understanding of the work AHS does through hands-on service learning projects.

From filling Kongs for shelter dogs to preparing meals for critters and providing enrichment to cats, kids will gain real-world experience of shelter work. Each three-hour session will also feature a seasonal project like making pet supply bags for our outreach community, creating dens for feral cats, or carving pumpkins for shelter dogs to enjoy.

This educational program also includes a presentation and a behind-the-scenes tour. Project Purpose can be used to fulfill school or club community service requirements, too!

Project Purpose is three hours and the cost is $40. Snacks will be provided.

Children must wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that can get dirty. Because this program is focused on community service projects, participants should not expect significant animal contact as part of the program.

Participants are welcome to attend multiple Project Purpose sessions. Please note that some activities, such as the tour and various service projects, will be repeated. Seasonal service activities change monthly.

Project Purpose is currently available at our Golden Valley location and will expand to Coon Rapids and Woodbury in 2018.
