Are you interested in becoming a veterinarian one day? You’re in the right place! AHS Shelter Vet Camp is designed to immerse students in the world of shelter medicine.

We are offering our traditional in-person camp and NEW this year, Virtual Shelter Vet Camp! Three fun and exciting camps for kids in grades 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8. Upon completion of the program, each participant will receive a certificate to commemorate their experience.

Shelter Vet Camp is hosted in Golden Valley and virtually via Zoom. 

  • In-person Shelter Vet Camp runs from 9 AM - 12 PM and costs $65. 
    In order to comply with current CDC guidelines, in-person Shelter Vet Camps will have no more than 8 participants. Prior to registering, please review our updated Humane Education program policies related to COVID-19.
  • Virtual Shelter Vet Camp runs 1-4 PM and costs $45 and includes all supplies mailed to your home.
    Please note, registration will close 8 days prior to camp to allow for shipping time. 


Due to COVID-19, we are only offering virtual Shelter Vet Camp January and February, 2021. In-person sessions resume March, 2021 at a capacity of 6 participants.

At our new Virtual Shelter Vet Camp, students will learn all about shelter medicine and veterinary practice at the Animal Humane Society. Each camp will involve hands-on practice, role play scenarios, group work and more. We will mail each camper a kit with all the supplies needed for this fun and educational camp! 

Campers in 3-4 grade sessions will:

  • Learn the different components within blood and create their own blood model 
  • Identify common veterinary tools and practice their diagnostic skills 
  • Perform pretend surgery and write up a treatment plan for their sick animal

Campers in 5-6 grade sessions will:

  • Learn the roles of vets and vet techs and what it takes to work in the veterinary field
  • First observe and then participate in an animal wellness exam
  • Practice preparing, measuring and distributing pseudo-medications for shelter animals

Campers in 7-8 grade sessions will:

  • Learn about viruses, bacteria and parasite and how they effect our pets
  • Observe a real surgery at AHS
  • Practice suturing with real tools on a skin model, all included in your kit!
