At some point in our lives, we will all face the unbearable heartbreak that comes from losing a beloved pet. Pets are family – offering us love, companionship, joy, and comfort. So how do we navigate the loss of a pet and how will we know we’re ready to accept a new pet into our lives?

Hear from Shanna Haugland, Senior Marketing Services Strategist at Animal Humane Society, about her journey with grief and welcoming a pet after loss.

Minnesota is known for its lakes, so it’s no surprise that during the summer people — and their pets — hit the water. While it can be fun to spend the day on the water with your best furry friend, it can also be dangerous without proper preparation.

Learn how to prepare your dog for the lake, as well as important safety precautions to keep both you and your pet safe while boating this summer.

Dog outside with AHS volunteer

Currently, AHS has a need for more community members to foster large dogs (50+ pounds), and help us provide more animals with a safe, comfortable space before they’re ready to find a new home.

Fostering takes a lot of work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. If you’re new to the world of fostering but want to get involved, here are a few things you can expect.

Thank you for sharing your heart with animals

On May 4, 2024, thousands of animal lovers gathered in celebration at the Walk for Animals — Animal Humane Society's largest fundraising event of the year. The Walk is always an inspiring reminder of the incredible impact we can have on animals when we come together — and this year was no exception.

Thank you for standing with Animal Humane Society and making a difference in the lives of animals. We're so grateful for our animal-loving community.
