We’re here to answer your questions about your pet. Call our Behavior Helpline 24/7 and leave a message describing your pet's problem. Specially trained volunteers will return the calls, typically within a week. If you adopted your pet from the Animal Humane Society or you are a student in our Training School, please call us directly at (763)489-2217.
Animal Humane Society volunteers have been working with pet owners since 1996 through the Behavior Helpline. They provide advice for owners, send them literature, and/or refer the caller to a veterinary behaviorist.
Some issues are best handled by a professional Veterinary Behaviorist (for example: canine or feline aggression). Because phone counseling is inadequate for addressing a serious problem like animal aggression, and because there is potential for serious injury from animal bites and scratches, Behavior Helpline volunteers must refer such cases to the following professionals:
Christopher Pachel, DVM 651-592-1740 www.tcvetbehavior.com
Terri Derr, DVM 612-360-7227 www.vetbehavioroptions.com
Margaret Duxbury, DVM Small Animal Behavior Clininc at the University of Minnesota. To schedule an appointment, contact Dana Ashlin-Emerson at 612-624-0797.
By keeping pets and owners together, the Behavior Helpline helps the Animal Humane Society carry out its mission to reinforce the human-animal bond, and helps reduce the number of surrendered animals.
