Simba was brought to Animal Humane Society four years ago with her kittens. She was an abandoned outdoor pet who was barely more than a kitten herself. When we took her into the visiting room she was so affectionate we had to take her home.
This summer we decided we were ready for a dog. We rode our bikes to Animal Humane Society and met Roxy, an adolescent pointer mix from Oklahoma. Like Simba, she was the only animal we looked at that day. We put her on hold and biked home to get the car with huge grins on our faces.
Roxy has a strong hunting instinct and it took a strong cat to teach her that kitties are different from squirrels and bunnies. Simba stood her ground and now she and Roxy hang out together. Roxy is working on her Canine Good Citizen Award and makes us laugh many times a day with her antics when she is not sitting or staying.
