We first saw Buddy when we did the 2011 Animal Humane Society Walk for Animals in May. I saw him and right away thought this is going to be our dog. We have a six-year-old golden Retriever named Toby and wanted to get him a friend. When we got Buddy home, he absolutely LOVED Toby, his new big brother. He would snuggle right up to him and was inseparable from him. Since we already used Buddy as a nickname for our golden, we decided to think of a new name. We came up with Odie since he kind of looks like the dog From Garfield (and we have a big fat orange cat too).
Odie is settling in well. We've nicknamed him Odini (like Houdini) since he has figured out how to get out of his crate and a plastic dog kennel. We now have an indoor/outdoor kennel for Odie and Toby to hang out in while we are at work and hired the neighbor to bring them on a walk after school (plus a seond walk/run when we get home).
Since we've had Odie, he's enjoyed going to the dog park, playing with friends' dogs, learning to swim at the beach, dog watching at Lake Calhoun, the Dog Days 5k in Minneapolis, and in September, Odie will get his first camping experience! Odie has also made many friends in the neighborhood. He's be-friended the three-year-old neighbor boy who was apprehensive of dogs. He even asked us if Odie could come for a sleepover!
We didn't have much information on Odie, but we got him when he was about 10 months old, so we decided to celebrate his one year birthday on the 4th of July. He looks very much like a yellow lab puppy, so we call him the perma-puppy since he will always look like a baby. He's got a lot of energy, but he is fitting in very well with our family. Every day he looks at us with a little smile on his face and I know he is happy to have finally found his home.
