The AnSWER Program
(Animal Surrender with Evaluation Report)
Not knowing if an animal passed the placement evaluation can be a concern for some persons surrendering an animal. Due to the high volume of animals received, the Animal Humane Society is unable to answer inquiries of each animal received. The AnSWER Program (Animal Surrender With Evaluation Report) is for those pet owners who want to be informed of the placement evaluation results and want the option to reclaim the animal if the Society determines he/she cannot be offered for adoption.
Taking part in the AnSWER program will provide you with a one-time evaluation report for a non-refundable fee of $75.00.
If the evaluation results determine we are unable to offer the pet for adoption, you can decide to reclaim him or her.
Important notes about the program:
• To be accepted into this program, animals must be brought to the Society during normal Incoming Animal business hours. We are unable to accept pets to this program if left in the after-hours drop-off area or if previously admitted under normal surrender policies.
• Animal evaluations can take from one to seven days from the date of surrender.
• While most pets remain available for adoption once passing the placement criteria, changes in an animal’s health or temperament while at the shelter may make re-evaluation necessary. Additional evaluations will be without notification.
• We are unable to offer this program to all animals brought to AHS. For eligibility considerations, please contact a Customer Service Representative in the Incoming Animals department of any AHS location.
