Spay/neuter services

At Animal Humane Society, we understand the importance of spaying and neutering pets. Every day, 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in the United States. More than 60% of them are unwanted and will be abandoned, often brought to a shelter or rescue organization. We believe animals in our community deserve better.

It is only with incredible spay/neuter efforts that we’ll reduce the dramatic number of animals that need homes. That's why we spay or neuter every dog, cat, and rabbit in our care before they are adopted.

In addition to reducing overpopulation, spaying or neutering your pet improves health and wellness and diminishes undesirable behaviors associated with females in heat and overactive male suitors.

Kindest Cut

Minnesota law makes it unlawful for the Animal Humane Society to practice veterinary medicine on animals not owned by our organization, so we've partnered with Kindest Cut to provide low cost, high quality spay/neuter services to animal rescue groups and pets of people in need.

Kindest Cut has performed more than 21,000 spay/neuter surgeries at Melrose Animal Clinic in Golden Valley and through a mobile surgical unit that travels throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding areas.

For more information, contact Kindest Cut at 763-489-SPAY (7729).

Animal welfare organizations

If you do not qualify for subsidized spay/neuter surgery through Kindest Cut, contact veterinarians in your community to see if they offer discounts or reduced-fee specials. The animal welfare organizations listed below may also offer subsidized spay/neuter programs.
