Prevent your pet from being lost or stolen
The Animal Humane Society recorded 13,830 lost pet reports in 2008. Of that number, only 2,516 were reported found. There are several steps you can take to keep your pets safe and home with you.
- Make sure your animal is properly identified with a collar and ID tags. Include a phone number where you can be reached on the tags. ID tags are available for purchase at our Golden Valley facility.
- Have your pet microchipped. Microchips are an implanted form of identification equipped with an individual scanning number. The number is listed with your contact information in a nationwide database that can be accessed by veterinarians and animal shelters to aid in the return of your lost pet.
- Spay/neuter your pet. Studies have shown that sterilized animals are less likely to roam.
- Leash your animal when outside—cats too! Animals love the outdoors but it is our responsibility to protect them. Keep them close to home and away from traffic, unfamiliar animals and those who may not concern themselves with your pet’s best interests.
