Issues and legislation

There are thousands of animals whose lives are improved because of the work we do, but we know there are thousands more that could be impacted with more clearly defined and strengthened animal welfare statutes. Those statutes provide a way for us to watch out for the welfare of animals, but many are often vague and fall short of providing the tools required to really help some animals in need.

More needs to be done to prevent animals from being kept in deplorable, abusive or neglectful situations. At the Animal Humane Society, we are committed to affecting legislative change. Please join us in our efforts and learn how you can help.

Current animal welfare legislation:

Puppy and kitten mill bill (S.F. 7/H.F. 253)

Domestic Abuse Act amendment to include pets in orders of protection

(H.F. 1396)
