Discarded kittens rescued by Good Samaritan

Temperatures hovered just below freezing on December 11 when a property management employee on cleanup rounds happened upon a box next to a recycling bin outside a restaurant in Hudson, Wisc. He was about to place it in the bin when he made an alarming discovery — a kitten popped out of the box and darted away. He opened the box and found two more cold and scared kittens inside. They were taken in by Animal Control in Hudson and then brought to Animal Humane Society.

A tearful reunion for Buford

Imagine coming home to find your house has been broken into and your cat is missing. That traumatic discovery happened to Mike, who grieved the loss of his cat Buford, thinking he would never see him again. Fast forward three years later, and a stray cat is brought to Animal Humane Society. He is scanned for a microchip and the makings of a very happy reunion are put into motion. See Mike and Buford being reunited on our Facebook page.

Video: Community Outreach in action

Watch Video

One of Animal Humane Society’s largest areas of growth in 2014 was Community Outreach. It began as an organizational priority in 2011, and last year we were able to put into action years of research and planning to begin reaching the people and pets in areas of the Twin Cities that weren’t previously using our services. There are so many elements to this extensive program, so we've put together a video to introduce you to some of the Outreach Team's work. They have already accomplished so much and this year they will continue to add new ways to help pet owners and ensure a sustainable program.

A perfect match for Fancy

Sometimes deaf animals, because they can’t hear themselves, are boisterously vocal. Such was the case with Fancy, an adorable white kitten whose enthusiastic shouts of "HERE I AM! TAKE ME HOME!" were actually deterring adopters from considering her. But as fate would have it, a visitor who also happened to be hearing impaired fell in love with Fancy.
