Hours: Tues, Wed & Thurs (4 pm - 8 pm)
Status: Seasonal, Part-Time, Non-Exempt--Accepting Applications
Location: Woodbury
Provide care, feeding, and handling of animals in accordance with AHS policies and procedures. Additionally, performs daily maintenance of all animal housing, and maintains building, grounds and equipment in proper working order.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Perform daily cleaning of animal areas in accordance with established procedures
* Monitor appetite, hydration, stools and vomit of all shelter animals
* Perform daily collection of fecals during cleaning process
* Answer pager calls to assist with incoming animals, food program pick up and donations
* Restrain animals for euthanasia as required
* Provide food for animals in accordance with established procedures
* Move animals throughout the shelter as needed
* Perform spot cleanings in the Adoption Center
* Perform daily cleaning of transfer cages, litter boxes, dishes, laundry and donated goods
* Assist with janitorial duties as needed
Work Environment:
* Environment can be dirty, wet and humid
* Exposure to unpleasant odors, loud noises and chemicals
* Work requires restraining, lifting, and carrying animals and cages
* Exposure to insect pests such as fleas and ticks
* Possibility of being bitten or scratched
* Job requires standing for long periods of time, bending, squatting, reaching, and heavy lifting
* High school diploma required, some further education preferred
* Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
* Skills in working independently as well as on teams
* Problem solving skills
* Willingness to travel to other shelter sites
* Able to work a flexible shift which may include evenings, weekends, and as our staffing needs change.
* Must be able to handle the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia
