The 2010 Minnesota Legislative session has begun and, although the number of Animal Humane Society Animal Advocates supporting the effort increases every day, we still need your help.
In the coming weeks and months, Animal Humane Society will be emailing alerts about the Minnesota Puppy and Kitten Mill Bill (Senate File 7 / House File 253) and how you can help. Join the AHS Animal Advocates to ensure you get those alerts.
These alerts will tell you when the bill is granted a hearing in a committee. We'll also let you know the names and phone numbers of the committee members so you can contact each. We will send you talking points from which you can speak or write an email.
An overview of the bill
Bill status
When the 2009 session adjourned, both S.F. 7 and H.F. 253 had been laid on the table in their respective agriculture committees. This means the bills can pick up in the process where they left off in 2009.
We are hopeful we will be able to get the votes to get the bills off the table for further debate and a vote to keep them moving through the legislative process.
Key actions you can take
If your state Representative or Senator sit on the agriculture committees, his or her vote is critical. Please:
If your legislators are not members of the above committees, their vote is still important—now and in the coming weeks as we need to continue to build support among all legislators throughout Minnesota. Please contact your own State Senator and Representative. Tell them you are a constituent, ask them to support S.F. 7 (Senator) and H.F. 253 (Representative) and educate them about what goes on in Minnesota puppy and kitten mills.
