Golden Valley remodel complete

The paint has dried, the new furniture is in place, and the expanded cat colony rooms are complete. Animal Humane Society’s Golden Valley location has a whole new look thanks in part to a grant from Purina Cat Chow. In addition to remodeled adoption and cat areas, the adoption process also received a makeover giving adopters a fun, comfortable, informative, personalized and efficient experience. View photos of the changes below.

Double your donation today!

Devoted animal lover Virginia McGaffey passed away last winter but wanted her support of animals to live on. Her estate has offered to match dollar-for-dollar gifts you send by September 20, 2014 – up to $50,000! Donate today to help save twice as many animals in need!

Outreach event in Frogtown a success

AHS hosted its first community wellness event last month at Ryan Park in the St. Paul neighborhood of Frogtown. The AHS community outreach team, along with a more than 100 staff and volunteers, provided free wellness exams and vaccinations for nearly 300 pets. Kindest Cut was also part of the event, providing tours of its mobile surgery unit, talking with pet owners about the benefits of spay/neuter and signing nearly 50 pets up for surgery. The AHS outreach team has been involved in the Frogtown community for more than a year in an effort to engage residents and improve the overall health and well-being of their pets.

Helping the kids of Leech Lake Reservation

Today children are returning to school, bringing with them an array of new school supplies. But for many kids of the Leech Lake Reservation, the supplies are limited. Animal Humane Society partner Leech Lake Legacy has been rescuing animals from the Reservation for three years. But their work is not just about the animals, it’s about helping the community as a whole. And this month, they’ve been asked to help the kids of Leech Lake with something so many of us take for granted. Donation bins have been set up at all AHS locations to collect school supplies as well as hats, gloves, and other warm weather gear for the children who often go without. Please see this flyer for more information on how to help.

Did you know?

So many great things happen here at Animal Humane Society that it's hard to keep track! In our "Did You Know?" series, you get a special pass to go behind the scenes at AHS and see some of the life-changing work we do.

In this month's episode, meet Elvis and Pierre, two animals who got a second chance at Animal Humane Society with the help of our Behavior Modification and Rehabilitation programs. This newly formed department lives our vision of “doing more for animals” every day by focusing on the behavior and mental well-being of the animals in our care. Learn about the team that provides behavior help and enrichment to the animals while they wait for homes.
