A long-time goal of Animal Humane Society has now become a reality, thanks to the support of generous donors in the Twin Cities. In partnership with private-practice Veterinarian Dr. Meghann Kruck, Animal Humane Society is excited to launch Kindest Cut — a high quality, low cost spay/neuter program for the pets of people in need.
The new mobile surgical unit begins service this week. The need is so great it is currently booked through May 21. Call today to schedule an appointment.
Kindest Cut services are available to cats, dogs and rabbits. Services are geared to pet owners with limited incomes in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area who do not have the resources to sterilize their animals. Surgeries are performed by licensed veterinarians who are skilled at small animal care with fees ranging from $40-100, depending on the gender and species.
According to Dr. Kruck, spaying and neutering one’s pet is one of the kindest things an individual can do for their pet — and all animals. When pets are fixed it helps with pet overpopulation by ending the cycle of unwanted litters. “It’s a relatively simple surgery that can have a major impact on animal homelessness, saving countless animal lives,” she says.
Every day, 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in the United States. More than 60% of them are unwanted and will be abandoned, oftentimes brought to a shelter or rescue organization.
“Animals in our community deserve better,” says Animal Humane Society CEO/President Janelle Dixon. "For more than a decade Animal Humane Society has sterilized all cats, dogs, rabbits and ferrets prior to adoption. Now, with Kindest Cut we expect to be able to provide an additional 20,000 spay/neuter surgeries,” Dixon said.
Contributors to Animal Humane Society found the issue of pet overpopulation so important they opened their hearts and wallets to fund the Kindest Cut mobile unit and have successfully made possible for the first phase of AHS’s spay/neuter plans. Animal Humane Society is still raising funds to build an affordable spay/neuter clinic at its Golden Valley site within the next year.
