Hadsome Oakley is Pet of the Week

Friday, November 6, 2009
WCCO 4 News reporting

Oakley, a handsome 11-year-old minature pinscher mix, joined Animal Humane Society's Tracie Jacobson today to discuss the benefits of senior pets with WCCO's Angela Davis.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month and AHS is taking this time to remind people who are thinking about adopting a pet to consider an older animal. We all know about the benefits of puppies and kittens, but there are great benefits to senior pets too.

One of the best reasons is that they've gotten rid of their old habits -- most won't need housetraining, they are a lot calmer than younger pets, and most will need very little training as they transition into their new home. They also still have a lot of life left in them.

Oakley is a great example of that. He is beginning to show his age and has just developed a cataract in his right eye, but he still has a lot of energy and gusto for life. Consider bringing him home after watching his appearance on WCCO's Pet of the Week below.
