Thanksgiving
We will be closed on Thursday, November 26 for Thanksgiving.

Christmas Eve
The Animal Humane Society will be closed on Thursday, December 24. Our boarding facility in Golden Valley will be open for drop offs and pick ups from 7-10 am and 4-7 pm. Our training school will be closed from December 20 through January 1.

Christmas
We will be closed on Friday, December 25.

A 13-year-old Iowa cat was believed to be the first confirmed case of H1N1 in a feline. It appears the cat got the virus from humans. Two of the three people in the home also had H1N1.

At the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley, preventing the spread of illness is always a top priority. And with news of this first confirmed H1NI case in a cat, staff is even more diligent about making sure visitors follow the hygiene rules.

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month and AHS is taking this time to remind people who are thinking about adopting a pet to consider an older animal. We all know about the benefits of puppies and kittens, but there are great benefits to senior pets too.

Melman is a former stray who is now a much-loved senior dog at Animal Humane Society. In his short time with AHS, staff and volunteers have learned that he is a people person… or dog. He loves as much attention as he can get, but at the same time is quite reserved. Even though they don’t know where he came from or much about his history, it’s obvious that he aims to please. He knows basic commands and is more than happy to flash his charming smile.
