Job Title: Veterinary Technicians

Weekday shifts vary (8:30-5:00; 9:45-6:15; 11:45-8:15)
Saturdays – 9:45-6:15; Sundays – 9:00-5:30

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate incoming animals for possible placement in the Adoption Center
  • Perform physical exams of surrendered, incoming animals and treat according to shelter policy
  • Perform daily treatments and monitoring of shelter animals in accordance with shelter policy
  • Assist in all aspects of surgical sterilization on all adoptable animals
  • Perform Behavior Evaluations on shelter dogs as part of the evaluation process
  • Enter required data into computer system
  • Perform humane euthanasia on animals deemed not adoptable per shelter protocols
  • Work collaboratively with all other staff in the Animal Services Department to ensure animals are being cared for properly and moving through the system efficiently
  • Be respectful of coworkers and treat both subordinate and superior staff in a professional manner
  • Complete medical and surgical procedures in a competent, safe and efficient manner
  • Respond to customer problems and concerns regarding adopted animals as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Certification as a Veterinary Technician or minimum of one year of experience as Veterinary Technician (shelter setting preferred)
  • Ability to effectively handle complex and/or emotional situations
  • Ability to accurately evaluate the health and condition of animals
  • Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel among all five campuses as needed

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily cleaning of animal areas
  • Monitor appetite, hydration, stools and vomit of all shelter animals
  • Daily collection of fecals during cleaning process
  • Respond to pager calls to assist with incoming animals, food program pickup, and donations
  • Euthanasia restraint
  • Ensure proper feeding of animals
  • Move animals throughout shelter as needed
  • Perform spot cleanings in Adoption Center
  • Daily cleaning of transfer cages, litter boxes, dishes, laundry and donated goods
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma required, some college education preferred
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Leadership abilities, good problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Clean driving record and ability to travel in the metro area required
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as bend, squat and lift heavy objects

Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator - Regular, Part-Time, Non-Exempt

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit, interview and assess potential new volunteer placement for all areas of volunteer programming to assure shelter needs are met.
  • Schedule and conduct regular new volunteer orientation and training programs as new volunteers are introduced into the organization.
  • Evaluate volunteer skills and abilities to support greater compatibility in the placement of the volunteer in support of volunteer retention and quality care for the animals.
  • Monitor the work performance of volunteers on a continual basis, provide constructive and positive feedback, and take corrective action whenever necessary to ensure work is done in compliance with the policies, procedures and expectations of the shelter.
  • Orient volunteers to company policies and procedures, clearly communicating job duties and responsibilities to insure individuals will proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions.
  • Support and promote the development of a strong, positive staff and volunteer working relationship through the approach of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Create a working climate in which volunteers are motivated to develop their skills and abilities. Demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
  • Address and resolve volunteer concerns or complaints and/or additional training needs.
  • Maintain volunteer files, statistics and database for tracking all activities within the volunteer program areas.
  • Participate in planning groups and other department meetings to represent the volunteer department and to assist in planning volunteer participation as needed.
  • Support and promote meaningful recognition programs for volunteers.
  • Be familiar with all aspects of shelter operation and the job requirements of staff in order to understand volunteer participation in programs and answer or refer questions to others accurately.

  • Computer proficiency
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills
  • Strong administrative and process management skills
  • Ability to multitask numerous projects at one time
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse groups of individuals
  • Previous supervisory experience in a volunteer environment preferred
