Genevieve and her family lead an active lifestyle and thought adding a dog would make things even more exciting. She and her husband wanted a running buddy and her two young boys wanted a playmate. They went to Animal Humane Society in search of the perfect dog for their family. They thought they found what they were looking for and started the adoption process by putting an adoption hold on a dog named Jayde. But before they could finish the adoption and bring Jayde home, they spotted Gunner, a German shorthaired pointer mix puppy, sitting quietly in his kennel. They felt bad about not adopting Jayde, but they just knew that Gunner was the dog for them.
They learned that Gunner came from another shelter in Brainerd where he had spent a great deal of his puppyhood. He had missed out on the sunny days of summer without a family to call his own and they were determined to make up for it. He quickly became a member of the family, playing football with the boys in the backyard and bounding through the woods at the dog park with his constantly wagging tail. He loves to be close to his new family and will invite himself up to any lap available.
And as for Jayde, the dog Genevieve and her family chose not to adopt — well she was adopted just a few hours after they left, giving two dogs loving homes that day.
