Primary_Responsibilities: 

Primary Function:  
To represent the adoption and incoming animal areas to the public through personal contact, telephone inquiries, animal adoptions, animal intakes, soliciting/collection of fees, merchandise sales and lost and found inquiries.  Additionally, ensure customers are met by a welcoming and clean environment.

Essential Responsibilities:
* Greet customers and promptly respond to routine customer inquiries and questions.
* Actively assist and advise customers in the adoption of companion animals.
* Accurately process animal adoptions, customer holds, merchandise sales in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
* Open and close adoption center, including securing building, preparing daily reports, and balancing of cash drawers.
* Accept and properly register stray and surrendered animals from individuals and solicit fees for services.
* Complete documentation and follow-up on surrender scenarios requiring ownership verification.
* Accurately and promptly process lost and found pet reports.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills_Abilities: 

Work Environment:
* Environment can be dirty, wet and humid
* Exposure to unpleasant odors
* Work requires restraining, lifting, and carrying animals and cages
* Exposure to insect pests such as fleas and ticks
* Possibility of being bitten or scratched
* Requires sitting or standing for long periods of time and the ability to lift 50 or more pounds.
* Irate and emotional individuals may be encountered
* Must be able to manage the emotional aspect of animal euthanasia

Minimum_Qualifications: 

* High school education or equivalent
* Minimum one year of work experience in retail or customer service position involving personal contact with customers
* Preferred candidates will have knowledge of health care, behavior, control and handling of dogs, cats and other companion animals
* Good organizational skills and ability to follow directions
* Good problem solving skills and ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people
* Must be able to communicate with public in a positive, educational manner
* Must communicate clearly and effectively in English
* Computer proficiency
* Available to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and some holidays.
* Willingness to travel to other Animal Humane Society sites as assigned to meet staffing needs
